Amazing Aurora Australis!

Hi Bloggers,
Today we've been making art on the Southern Lights/Aurora Australis.
The Southern and Northern lights also known as Aurora Australis and Aurora Borealis were named after the Roman Goddess Aurora.
The Lights are made by the Sun superheating the gasses around it, this starts tiny pieces of the sun to blast away at 750 kilometers a second. Once the stream of particles called the solar wind hit the earth's magnetic field some of the particles get deflected by the earth's atmosphere but some make it through.
While they are in the atmosphere it excites oxygen and nitrogen atoms which causes them to light up to cause the Aurora Lights.
Auroras are also visible from space as big colourful rings around either the north or south poles.
Auroras have also been seen on Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus. They also occur on the north and south poles just like on Earth.

For art we ripped a piece of paper to look like mountains, then we taped it onto the black paper and got chalk pastels, with the pastels you put the colour only on the white paper then smear it up to create the effect of the Aurora.
Since we are also learning Matariki I added the constellations with a yellow-tinted white.

Next time I would change the colours so it would look more realistic.

Interesting Inquiry and Magnificent Matariki!

Hey Readers, this week for Inquiry I wrote a small explanation on my issue of Hyperfemininity.
I also painted the dress and I'll paint more of it later today!
Here is my Explanation of my art and why I chose it!

My Art shows that women are still being held to insane stereotypes that aren’t right. Women shouldn’t have to be married and have kids if they don’t want to. It’s crazy that men or even other women at times think that this is how women should be treated so I showed that this is wrong. I did this by taking a girl who must wear and like pink and made her chained up and stuck to the stereotypes showing that she can’t getaway.

For the past three Fridays, we worked on Matariki art. I showed a picture of my progress last week so this week I'll show you the finished product!

If you can't read the explanation it says, This is a piece of art showing the meaning of the stars in the Matariki constellation through animals that best describe them.

The Owl is Matariki which means the eyes of Tāwhirimātea. I chose an owl because they have big eyes. 

The Eagle is Tupu-ā-Rangi which is sky tohunga, I chose an Eagle because it’s a flying, bold bird. 

I made Waipuna-ā-Rangi into a deer because it means sky spring and a Deer reminds me of spring.

With Waitī, which means sweet water I made a Dolphin because they are sweet animals that live in the sea.

For Tupu-ā-Nuku which means the Earth, I chose an earthworm for obvious reasons.

With Ururangi which is the entry to the heavens, I picked a Goat because I love them.

Last but not least, Waitā - a sprinkle of water. I chose a Jellyfish Because they are made from mostly water.

I made all 7 sisters and put them in a night sky and next week I'm going to add some writing about it.

Binary Initials

Hi Readers,
Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII. 
Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers. 
You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself! 
Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols
from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers,
and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s,
my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below! 

My initials are KB and you can see that the top letter is K and the bottom is a B!

My Wonderful Website

For the past couple of weeks, I have been working on my Wizard of Oz Analysis Website.
It's now finished and you can view it! The only issue is that if you aren't from Marshland school it won't let you on, so I'll tell you about it now.

The three themes I chose were Home, Power, & Friendship.
As well as my three symbols which are The Yellow Brick Road, Emerald City, & The Hot air Balloon.

I made my website on google sites and used the template called 'Project' Google Sites is free and super easy to use!

Amazing Art

Hi Bloggers,
This week for Inquiry we looked at art on global issues.
We had to write what the different pieces of art meant to us, then we picked our favourite and wrote a little more in detail about it.


To me, this piece of art is saying that this homeless man doesn’t want money. He wants to have a change in the world. This piece of art is trying to stop people who are becoming homeless. This art is representing thousands of homeless people who need change, and they need it now.

Koru Creation!

Hi Bloggers, This Friday I made my necklace with a Maori design, I made it with air dry clay and used water so it didn't dry while I was sculpting it, with a toothpick so I could make small details in the clay.

Instead of just uploading an image of it I made an Adobe spark video.
This was the first time I have used it so it could definitely be better, but it's alright.
