Hangis And Technology

 Hey Bloggers,

Recently I've been looking at the changes between then and now Hangis. Not much has changed apart from how long it takes to cook.

I've made a slide showing how it was in the past, how it is now and the similarities they share.

As you can see Hangis are still traditional but they have improved to make it easier and quicker for people who haven't got enough time to do a traditional Hangi but still want one.
But traditional hangis took over a day to prepare and around 4 hours cooking time aswell as preparing food.

Have you ever had a traditional Hangi?
Have you used a Hangi cooker?
Comment some feedback and I'll try comment back!
See you later!

All about Rockets!

Hello Bloggers, this term for inquiry we've been learning about rockets!

Near the end of the term we made a video in our groups on our knowledge of rockets and we made it dry humour, this made our video look odd but know it's meant to be like that.

Our group had a lot of fun filming this so I hope you have fun watching it.

That's our video.

I hope you liked it!

What did you learn? What would your rocket look like?

Ka kite!

Python PSA

 Hi Bloggers!

Today I made a PSA using python, PSA means Public Service Announcement, mine is on not littering because it's causing animals to die and destroy our environment. Because my target audience is school kids because sometimes they leave wrappers behind after eating, I made it a school to show them what to do. Python is a computer language/code that I used to make the PSA. The one I made had interactive features so you could put the rubbish into the bin but unfortunately, the website can't share stuff so I took some screenshots.

Here is the code I had!

Here is my PSA, each screenshot is in order of what happens.

That's all!
Have you made a PSA, what did you make it on?

What would you make a PSA on?

BYE!!

Binary Initials

Hi Readers,
Today we are learning about Binary and ASCII.
Binary is a number system that uses 1’s and 0’s to represent all of our normal set of numbers.
You can use the place values as multiples of 2 to work out how to do it for yourself!
Try watching this video to give it a go yourself!

ASCII is a set of encoded symbols that a computer uses to turn Binary into letters and other symbols
from the English language (like what is on our keyboard).  I turned my initials into binary numbers,
and then turned those binary numbers into an ASCII code!  Using colours to represent the 1’s and 0’s,
my initials in ASCII can be represented by the pattern you see in my image below!

My initials are KB and you can see that the top letter is K and the bottom is a B!
What do you think?
Have you ever tried encoding anything in binary or ASCII?
See you later!

My Wonderful Website

Hi Bloggers!

For the past couple of weeks, I have been working on my Wizard of Oz Analysis Website.
It's now finished and you can view it! The only issue is that if you aren't from Marshland school it won't let you on, so I'll tell you about it now.
CLICK HERE TO GO ON MY SITE
My site includes three characters which are Dorothy, Tin Woodman, & Oz.
The three themes I chose were Home, Power, & Friendship.
As well as my three symbols which are The Yellow Brick Road, Emerald City, & The Hot air Balloon.

I made my website on google sites and used the template called 'Project' Google Sites is free and super easy to use!

That's all for today!
Have you ever made a website?
What's your favourite character from the Wizard of Oz?

Amazing Art

Hi Bloggers,
This week for Inquiry we looked at art on global issues.
We had to write what the different pieces of art meant to us, then we picked our favourite and wrote a little more in detail about it.

To me, this piece of art is saying that this homeless man doesn’t want money. He wants to have a change in the world. This piece of art is trying to stop people who are becoming homeless. This art is representing thousands of homeless people who need change, and they need it now.

That's all
See you later!

Koru Creation!

Hi Bloggers, This Friday I made my necklace with a Maori design, I made it with air dry clay and used water so it didn't dry while I was sculpting it, with a toothpick so I could make small details in the clay.

Instead of just uploading an image of it I made an Adobe spark video.
This was the first time I have used it so it could definitely be better, but it's alright.

That's all!
Have you used Adobe spark before?
What design would you put on your necklace?

Bye!

My Awesome Ako!

Hi Bloggers!

This week was my first week back at school, it was great to see everyone!

For Literacy I get to make a website using new google sites all about Oz, I'll upload it once I've completed it.
The website has 3 symbols, themes, and characters that are important to the book and film.
The symbols I chose were the yellow brick road, Dorothy's slippers, and the Emerald City,
My Characters are Dorothy, The Tin Woodman, and The Wizard of Oz,
And my Themes are Home, Friendship, and Power.

For Numeracy, I learned how to do python which is basically computer language.
I had to change how I worded equations. For example, instead of using an x for multiplication I used * and instead of  22or3 I used ** then the number I needed.
Here are some examples.
If the equation is 72-3+5x2=
In python, you would put 7**2-3+5*2=
If the equation is 6x9÷5-1=
In python, it would be 6*9/5-1=
To get the answer you have to put control+Enter.
If you want to give it a try then click here

Last but not least today I started Koru art and I got some inspiration from Raewyn Harris she has some amazing pieces of art. I haven't completed my Koru yet so I'll upload it in next week's post!

Have you ever used python before?
What is your favourite piece of art by Raewyn?

That's all for this week!
Stay safe!

My Code

0000000000
0000100000
0000111100
0000000000
0000000000

0011111100
0100000010
1000000001
0000000000

This probably looks very confusing but it's not.
In class we made a 10x14 grid and made a picture only using Black and white.
Since we are learning Binary (Computer Language)
We put it into code where 0 = white and 1 = Black.
If you want try and make my picture!

We are looking forward to seeing what poems they send to us!
